As the Australian Top End’s cool burning season comes to an end, Mimal Rangers turn their attention to the wildfire season – summer – the hottest time of the year when the country is tinderbox dry and damaging wildfires can be started by lightning or the careless throw of a match. It’s a time when Mimal Rangers review the cool season’s fire scars and locate areas to ‘fill gaps’, creating fire breaks to protect unburned areas from lighting up. In 2022, the rangers incorporated training on fire breaks with the need to fill critical gaps in preparation for potential wildfires. *** Director, Producer, Writer, Camera, Sound, Editor: Emma Masters Mimal Land Management ‘Dry Season Project’.
